Some of my sonnets are better than others. Perhaps this one rates Bminus.

LAND AND SEA

God’s work is permanent. God’s work is fruitful:
A partnership of contrasts: land and sea;
Solid and fluid; useful both, and beautiful;
Wet and dry; dull and reflecting; fixed and free.

Watch the waves crash against the rocks.
What power is there! Beauty! Majesty!
Trickling back, the foam combs the seaweed’s locks,
Adapting to every crevice of its stubborn adversary.

The battle, sometimes gentle, sometimes violent,
Slowly eroding, slowly building up;
Sculptured coves and headlands, stern impediment,
Or soft sand, laid in layers, silting up.

The ever restless works on the ever still;
Impatience and patience, working God’s will.
